Sally Z Reports . . . .
Bay Area Patriots - August 27, 2012
Greetings from Tampa!
Here is a recap of some quick observations from yesterday, Sunday, August 26th. If the IJ uses my blogs, I'll just send you the link. If not, I'll send you the blogs to the extent I can get them done.
Most of the California Delegation arrived at the RNC Convention in Tampa on Saturday, August 25th. The goal is to formally nominate Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan to be the next President and Vice President of the United States. Not only are delegates here, but Republican rock stars as well. On the second leg of our particular flight we were joined by Republican luminaries, Ambassador John Bolton and Congressman Darrel Issa, who indulged us with a few pictures and some political conversation. There have been a few Meg Whitman sitings and everyone is just ebullient--smiles all around; not a grumpy person in sight.
As party conventions go, patriotism abounds--"red, white and blue" is ubiquitous as are buttons, pins, t-shirts, elephant paraphernalia and, it's only a matter of time until the silly hats emerge. It's no surprise that California is the largest delegation and is a diverse group to boot. The mood is electrifying--delegates, alternates and their guests are jazzed to get convention activities underway. Only one thing stands in the way: Hurricane Isaac which is looming on the horizon (and, as I write this, the wind is howling outside my hotel room and, at times, seems like it's inside as well).
Sunday was fairly laid back--we received our credentials (without them, we will not be admitted onto shuttles or to convention activities) and some had meetings to attend but it was mostly a day to mingle with other delegates and maybe take a walk on a very grey and windy beach. The day culminated with a fabulous "Welcoming" event at Tropicana Stadium featuring country singer Rodney Atkin and some local celebrities.
Official convention events for Monday have been cancelled due to Isaac, who is testing us much as his father, Abraham, was tested in the Old Testament! However, we will have an early morning breakfast with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (more on that tomorrow, folks!). Whether Isaac is a full blown Hurricane, hits Tampa or generates tornadic activity, the California delegation is prepared and excited to get things underway on Tuesday after the storm passes. In addition to some serious humidity, the air is redolent with excitement and anticipation as the delegation gears up for a unified and historic Romney-Ryan ticket! We hope and pray that everyone is safe along the entire Gulf Coast.
NobamaNevada: The earlier you register and make this a priority in your schedule, the better we can plan and make this event a humdinger.
